Description	:	William D. Crites, 80, died at a Havre hospital early Monday. Funeral services are scheduled Thrusday at 3 p.m. at Holland and Bonine Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John Hunsucher officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery where the United Veterans Council will conduct military graveside rites. Mr. Crites was born July 4,1909 in Spearnvile, N.D. to Jonathon R. and M. (Dumdai) Crites. He came to Montana with his family at the age of 2 to homestead in the Gildford area. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery where the United Veterans Council will conduct military graveside rites. Mr. Crites was born July 4,1909 in Spearnvile, N.D. to Jonathon R. and M. (Dumdai) Crites. He came to Montana with his family at the age of 2 to homestead in the Gildford area. At the age of 14 he worked on the Gildford paper as a typesetter. He worked his way through Gildford and Rudyard schools. Mr. Crites worked for room and board at Track's Store before it became Sanvik's and he continued to work there for two years after high school. In 1941 he entered the U.S. Army serving with the 3rd Infantry Division in the European and African theathers. He took part in over 22 conflicts including Tunisian, Sicillian, Fedala and Italian conflicts, receiving the Purple Heart for injuries he received in Italy in 1943. He received the American Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge and was entitled to wear the Bronze Stars for participation in different battles or skirmishes. He was discharged in 1945 and returned to the Gildford area where he farmed and ranched until his retirment in 1972. On Sept. 29th, 1945 he married Gladys Light. He is survived by his wife of Havre, son Russell of Havre four step daughters, G. Astrid Thackery of Dodson, Lyndal H. Mauldin of Port Townsend, Wash., Karen J. Dolphay of Belt and Arla Rae Beem of El Centro, Calif., one sister Luellay Welsh of Great Falls, and one brother Donald Swinney og Gildford.
