Description	:	Parents: John and Elizabeth McKee Donley William Donely (sic) died at his home in Ney about 1 o’clock Wednesday afternoon Sept 25, 1901 after an illness of some months duration of tuberculosis. Mr. Donley was born in Athens County, O Dee. 11, 1833 and carne to Defiance County with his father’s family in the spring of 1834 and has been prominently identified with the history of Washington township ever since. He was married July 5, 1862, to Permelia daughter of Isaac and Sarah Cummins. who died Jan.8, 1875. Of this union five children were born; two living, -John and Lillie (McFeters)... Mr. Donley was born in Athens County, O Dee. 11, 1833 and carne to Defiance County with his father’s family in the spring of 1834 and has been prominently identified with the history of Washington township ever since. He was married July 5, 1862, to Permelia daughter of Isaac and Sarah Cummins. who died Jan.8, 1875. Of this union five children were born; two living, -John and Lillie (McFeters) of Ney. Oct 29, 1876 Mr. Donley married Lucy, daughter of Harvey and Mary McFeters. To them were born six children, four living; Arie, (Bergman) Charles, Lottie (Walker) and Peter, of Ney, Mr. Donley served in the Civil War from Nov. 1. 1861 to April 1, 1862, in Co.F. 48th Reg., O. V.I. He was always an ardent Republican having been township committeeman almost continuously for over thirty years. He had filled several offices during his life, and at his death was town marshal. He was a well-known character throughout the county and was a good citizen, neighbor, husband and father. Funeral services were held at Ney M. E. church at 10 o'clock a. m. Sept. 27, conducted by the Ney Lodge Knights of Pythias, No, 718, of which order Mr. Donley was a member. After singing by the choir, "Nearer My God To 'I'hee" There was a scripture reading and prayer by the Rev. Van Dyke of Sherwood K of P lodge; singing “In the Valley of the Shadow” Sermon by Rev, Oldaker of Bryan; singing “Joy Cometh In The Morning”. The beautiful burial service of the K. of P. order was held at the grave in Ney Cemetery led by Rev. Van Dyke, the prelate. About fifty K. or P's attended; 36 taking especial part in the service. There were between 500 and 600 people in attendance at the funeral; the business houses of Ney were all closed during the hours of the funeral, showing the general respect and esteem in which Mr. Donley was held. Ours the lonely aching pain But a few days since you left us Here in lonely grief to weep, But we fain would hope that o'er us Still a father's watch you'll keep, When we look around about us And your face no more we see It causes us to feel more lonely- But then how happy you must be, Then farewell our own dear papa, Till all grief and pain, There is happiness around thee Then shalt, meet thine own again.
