Bill served in the United States Air Force in air traffic control, and retired as a Technical Sergeant after 20 years of service. He later worked for FMC Corporation. He was a member of the Eagles and the American Legion, and enjoyed spending time with his Tuesday morning HyVee coffee group. Bill married Letha Transmeier. They later divorced. He married Barbara F. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Betty Curtiss, Vera Hadl, and Harold McCrary.
