He grew to young manhood midst the scenes of his birth and was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Josephine Schreiner at Mount Carroll, Iowa, December 18, 1907. To this union three children were born: Mrs. Erma Perkins, Ralph and Mrs. Ruby Real, all of Fairmont. He was united in marriage to Daisy M. Horton, March 30, 1937. Mr. Keil had lived in this community from the date of his birth, and was engaged in farming. He had lived in his present home upwards of 15 years. Mr. Keil was a man of sterling character, a good farmer and beloved by all who knew him. He took a vital interest in community affairs and was recognized as a loyal and respected citizen. During his many years on the farm, he produced much to feed and clothe the people of his county. He labored unstintingly to add his share toward making this country one of abundance. He was a beloved member of the Federated church of Fairmont, and a member of the I.O.O.F. of Exeter. He maintained a firm grip on his convictions until the end. Truly, it may be said that he was a man who inspired a moral and spiritual uplift to the society about him. The whole community mourns the loss of such a splendid character. He was strciken by illness over two years ago and lingered as a patient sufferer until the Lord called him to rest. He leaves to mourn his death, his beloved wife, the three children already mentioned; his devoted mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Keil; one brother, Conrad; three grandchildren, Beverly Perkins, Charlene Keil and Shirley Real; also one step-grandson, Kenneth Taylor, who lived in the home for the past six years, and one step-granddaughter, Bonnie Taylor. Aside from the immediate family, he leaves a host of friends and other relatives. Funeral services were held at the Fairmont Federated church at 3:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. E.R. King, assisted by Rev. L.A. Fishel of the Methodist church. The singers were Mrs. Mamie Kemp, Miss Margaret Aldrich, W.E. Black and Oliver Moul, with Mrs. Marian Karnes at the organ. The ritual burial service of the I.O.O.F. was rendered in the church by members of the Exeter lodge, who also served as pallbearers. Interment was made in the family plot in the Fairmont cemetery.
