YOUNG MAN BURNED; TRAPPED UNDER CAR William Meyer, DuBois, Seriously Hurt When His Car Fails to Take McQuaid Corner. William Meyer, about 20 years old, DuBois, is quite badly burned from the hips down as the result of the overturning of his Dodge roadster at the Gerome McQuaid corner, two miles north of Seneca shortly after ten o'clock last night. Companions of Meyer saved his life by lifting the frame of the car and extricating him from the position in which he was caught by the steering column of his machine. The boys who used superhuman strength in lifting the machine were Leonard Huffman and Howard Cutshall, also of DuBois. The boys spent the evening in Seneca and were on their way home, driving rapidly. Meyer knew the road but forgot about the sharp turn in the state highway where it rounds the McQuaid barn which stands squarely on the corner. Meyer, the driver, was unable to make the corner and the car skidded and turned over. Even as it overturned, Huffman and Cutshall declare it began to blaze. They rushed to the aid of their companion and were themselves slightly burned about the face and heir hair singed as they worked to save Meyer. They succeeded in lifting the frame of the machine but not before Meyer was burned from the waist down. The young man was brought to the office of Dr. D. H. Piper who dressed his wounds. He suffered intensely. Dr. Piper describes the burns as extensive but not deep. The physician thinks he has a good chance for recovery unless complications develop. Young Meyer's father came for him and Dr. Piper advised that he be taken directly to Pawnee hospital. Seneca people said the boys had not been drinking. The Dodge car, an old model, is a total loss.
