The death of William James Jerred, pioneer farmer of the Edberg district, south of Camrose, occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edw. Christian of Clandonald on Wednesday, April 17. The death of William James Jerred, pioneer farmer of the Edberg district, south of Camrose, occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edw. Christian of Clandonald on Wednesday, April 17. Having moved from Minnesota in November, 1901, to Edberg with his wife and little daughter, Mr. Jerred was one of the earliest settlers in the south country and his farm was always regarded as one of the best equipped and best operated in the countryside. He was born in Seneca Lake, New York on January 15, 1854, eighty-one years ago, shortly after his parents arrived from England. Three months were required to make the ocean voyage. He was the eldest of a family of ten children. Mr. Jerred farmed continuously in the Edberg district until the time of Mrs. Jerreds death in January 1934, when he was taken to his daughters home. He had been in failing health for some time, having suffered a stroke in November 1933. He had been an almost helpless invalid from that time until his death. Note: Included in newspaper notice is a photo of Mr. Jerred, taken in 1928, with the following caption: Old-timer of the Edberg district, whose death occurred at the home of his daughter, E. Christian of Clandonald, on Wednesday, April 17th, 1935. Mr. Jerred farmed at Edberg for 33 years and was one of the districts earliest settlers. The above photo was taken in May, 1928 at the time if an attempted hold-up of the Imperial Bank at Edberg by two armed robbers. Mr. Jerred was credited with having captured Bethune, the more desperate of the two thugs, who sought to hide in Mr. Jerreds woodshed in an effort to escape capture by police and others who were hot on his trail.
