Description	:	Mannie Arthur Jerred was one of 12 children born to Robert and Elizabeth Jerred, both natives of England. They emigrated to America in 1850, shortly after having been married. In the Fall of 1854 they settled in Howard Co., IA, and began farming. Mannie was one of the "middle" children in this large brood. As a young man, Mannie worked on his father's farm. They emigrated to America in 1850, shortly after having been married. In the Fall of 1854 they settled in Howard Co., IA, and began farming. Mannie was one of the "middle" children in this large brood. As a young man, Mannie worked on his father's farm. In 1888, Mannie found himself in Preston, Fillmore Co., MN where he married Miss Alice Amelia Brelsford on November 9th. Alice's parents were also natives of England. Mannie and Alice's first child, Edgar Erwin was born in MN. In 1900, the couple were engaged in farming in Gregory County, S.D. Records show that on 4 Sept. 1901, Mannie purchased about 200 acres of land as a homestead. By 1904, the Jerreds were farming in Kirkwood, Rock Co., NE. In 1920 they had moved to Millboro, Tripp Co., S.D.. On 26 June 1926 Mannie purchased about 360 acres of land in Jackson Co., S.D. It seems the Jerreds had stopped roaming, and remained in Millboro, S.D. until some time before 1943. In that year the Jerreds were living in NE when Alice died. Mannie followed her five years later. Alice and Mannie had six children: Egdar Erwin, Lawrence Delbert, Violet Emma, Mannie Joseph, and Harold Jesse. Sadly, Mannie Joseph died of pneumonia, a complication of influenza--very likely the Spanish Flu of 1918, which killed millions of people around the world. The other five children lived well into old age.
