Rosary services were held for Mr. Sernett Tuesday evening, November 15, at eight o'clock. Streit Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery at Pocahontas. Floral tributes were arranged by Mrs. Glenn Dailey and Mrs. Joe Meisenbach. Pallbearers were Roy Schonberger, Theo Ripperger, Wm. Buske, Charles Zeman, James Triplett and Harold Calligan. William Sernett, son of Michael and Mary Sernett, was born on a farm near Pocahontas on January 7, 1889. His age was 71 years, 10 months and six days. On February 4, 1913 he was united in marriage with Mae Pechan in SS Peter and Paul's Church in Pocahontas by Fr. Raphael. To this union three children were born, Clarence of near Bradgate, Evelyn (Mrs. Ross Westerlund) of Mason City and Eldon of near Rolfe. The couple resided for two years on his father's farm four miles east of Pocahontas. On March 20, 1915 they purchased a farm five miles northeast of Rolfe in Des Moines Township where they resided for 45 years. William Sernett was a good citizen and interested in his community, having served 12 years on the Board of Education in Des Moines Township. He also was a township trustee for several years. He was a faithful member of St. Margaret's Church. He was a devoted husband and father and also had a great devotion for his grandchildren. His firm belief in truthfulness and honesty will always be remembered by his family and friends. Survivors are his wife, Mae; his three children and five grandchildren, Jim, Julie and Billy Westerlund and Jonelle and Kevin Sernett. Also two sisters, Mrs. Jerry Hotovec of Pocahontas and Mrs. Ralph Roberts of Emmetsburg; two brothers, Joe Sernett of Pocahontas and James Sernett of Laurens, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lee. Relatives and friends from a distance attending the last rites were Mrs. Bernard Roberts, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Westerlund and family of Mason City, Mrs. Wilma Sernett and Gilbert of Hampton Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Sernett of Sac City, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Chizek of Garner, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kliegli of Mallard, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Sernett, Mr. and Mrs, James Sernett and Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Sernett, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Murray, Mrs. Irene Ryon, George and Norman Sweigert, all of Laurens, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Russell of Fort Dodge, Nancy Pechan of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Art Zeman of Ottosen, as well as many from the Pocahontas vicinity." Contributed by Ann Bowler (#46893124)
