Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Pocahontas. Abelina A. Sernett was born January 26, 1910, at Rolfe, Iowa. She was the daughter of Michael and Mary (Shors) Sernett. She graduated from Rolfe High School in 1928. On June 1, 1932, Abbie married Jerry Hotovec at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Rolfe. The couple settle in Pocahontas. Abbie worked in the Pocahontas County Treasurer’s office for several years. Jerry died in 1996. In 2001, Abbie moved to the Arlington Place and in 2003 to the Pocahontas Manor. Abbie was a member of the Resurrection Catholic Church, Catholic Ladies Society, Legion of Mary, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Catholic Order of Foresters. She enjoyed fishing with Jerry, doing crafts, quilting and playing cards. Survivors include her sons, Bill (Joanne) Hotovec of Urbandale and Norman (Sheila) Hotovec of Reseda, Calif.; daughters, Donna, Reedsburg, Wisc.; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Abbie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry; brother, Will, Joe, Lee and Jim Sernett; amd a sister. Regina.”
