He was baptisted (sic) and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at an early age and was a love and server of his Lord and Master to the day of his death. Always kind to his neighbors and friend he had won the love and esteem of all with whom he came in contact. Early last Saturday morning May 20, 1905, he was called by his Lord to come and partake of eternal happiness and rest. He leaves to mourn his departure a loving wife, one sister, a son and daughter, who have the sympathies of a host of friends in the sad bereavement. ----------- See also obituary: The Fairfield Tribune Wednesday, May 24, 1905 Page 3, Column 5 Funeral of William Langner The funeral of the late William Langner was held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the First English Lutheran church. The pastor, Rev. W. Luther Bright, preached the sermon from the text found in John's Gospel, the 13th chaper, 7th verse, "What I dou thou knowest not now but thou shalt know hereafter." The preacher said to the sorrowing ones that there were some things that the Mastor did not desire his children to known and that this was one of those things- why - He comes into our homes and takes those who are dear to our hearts away from our sight. "But," continued the minister, "there shall come a time when all these mysteries shall be cleared away and we shall understand why these things come to pass. In the meantime, therefore, we should bow humbly 'neath the rod and, as it were, resignedly kiss the same and say, "Thy will, not ours, be done!" The minister cited a number of instances recorded in the Word of God when circumstances seemed and in fact were not understood, referring to the dealing of God with the Israelites, Elijah in the cave, Jeremiah in the prison, Daniel in the den of Lions, the three Hebrews in the firey (sic) furnace, John the Baptist being beheaded, etc., and making the application very forcibly. The music was furnished by the church choir. The funeral was very largely attended, not alone by those who reside in the city, but by many from a distance. The floral tributes were many and beautiful, and were tastily arranged by Lou Thoma, who had charge of the funeral ceremonies. The body was interred in the city cemetery, there to await the Resurrection morn. William Langner was born at Four Corners, Ia., June 15, 1857. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and was a lover and server of His Lord and Master up to the time of his death, May 20th. He died at the age of 47 years, 11 months and 5 days, at his pleasant home just his departure a loving wife, a sister, outside of the city, leaving to mourn a son and daughter as well as a host of friends. Mr. Langner was a man beloved by all who knew him and the sorrowing ones have the sincere sympathy of everyone in this, their sad hour of affliction.
