Description	:	William Lewis Fisher was born April 29, 1898 on a farm near Rulo, Nebraska to Annie Parohl Fisher. His father, William Franklin Fisher, had died three weeks earlier in a sandslide on a creek where he was working. William Lewis was put out to work at a tender age to earn money for the family. His father, William Franklin Fisher, had died three weeks earlier in a sandslide on a creek where he was working. William Lewis was put out to work at a tender age to earn money for the family. Having completed the 6th grade, he took the eighth grade exam, and passing, trod through the schoolroom door no more. William Lewis, or "Bill" as he was later known, had inherited a strength of purpose, a tenaciousness with deep roots. His father, William Franklin, was born May 22, 1861 in Auburn, Pennsylvania. At the age of eighteen after a verbal fight in a field they were plowing behind their house, he and his father parted ways. William Franklin saddled his horse and rode toward the setting sun, and didn't settle until he had reached Rulo, Nebraska. This same tenacity that kept William Franklin from returning to Pennsylvania also was inherited by his son, William Lewis. Out on his own at an early age, he also worked hard, played hard, and made his own. As a young man, his favorite haunt was the dance halls of Rulo, where he danced the night away. His nickname during these years was "Two-Wheel Willie" as he never took a corner, except on two wheels. A little reckless, undaunted by authority or responsibility, Bill Fisher hired out wherever he was needed. A stint of work on the Miles Ranch near Dawson, Nebraska, changed his life. Stopping by the food tent to speak with his half-sister, Minnie, he saw a woman, 26 years old, and never having been bitten by the love-bug, Bill hardly knew what hit him. Elizabeth Percival was a "lady", also helping out as a cook during the harvest. Pleasingly plump, intelligent, with a good sense of humor, she agreed to his coming to call. Bill visited in the Percival parlor each Friday night and Sunday afternoon. On Saturday night, he still frequented his old haunts at Rulo but the gentle ways of Elizabeth won his heart, and they "ran away" to Auburn and were married October 7, 1927. Her father, a gentleman farmer near Barada, furnished them a plot of ground with a small house of four rooms.
