Raymond Picken W. Raymond Picken, 84, 908 S. Sixth St., died at 5:50 p.m. Friday Oct. 5, 1990, at Jefferson County Hospital. Picken was born Feb. 27, 1906, in Jefferson County, the son of R. B. and Eleanor Summers Picken. He married Naoma Lund June 10, 1928, in Jefferson County. He lived his entire life in Fairfield and was owner and operator of Pickens Tire and Appliance Center for 55 years, retiring in 1971. Picken was a member of Free Methodist Church and served on the church's general board of administration at Winona Lake, Ind., for 12 years. He also was a member of the Fairfield Lions Club for 47 years. He was on the board of trustees of Wessington Spring College in Wessington Springs, S.D. for 10 years and served on the college staff as a public relations representative for one year. After his retirement, Picken and his wife travelled for 15 years in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Europe, Asia and Africa. Surviving are his wife; three sons, William of Burlington, Donald of Milwaukee, Ore., and Roger of West Linn, Ore.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie Williams of Albuquerque, N.M.; and one brother, Robert L. of Mesa, Ariz. Picken was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Merle and Alex. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Free Methodist Church, the Rev. Charles Kaufmann and the Rev. George Koch officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Behner Funeral Home. Friends may begin calling at the funeral home at noon Sunday. A memorial has been established to the Free Methodist Church.
