Mr. Dame was a millwright and had worked for the former LFM and Rockwell International companies until he retired in 1984. Mr. Dame served in the Navy as a chiefs machinist mate in the Philippines from 1942 to 1948. He received a Purple Heart during the invasion at Leyte, Philippines Liberation. He was born May 4, 1923, in Atchison, the son of Joe and Flora Mitchell Dame. He graduated from Atchison High School in 1942. Mr. Dame was a member and an elder of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a member of Fleming-Jackson-Seever Post No. 6 of the American Legion and Post No. 1175 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Atchison, and Disabled American Veterans. He married Doris Lee Baker in 1950. She died May 8, 1970. He later married Jeanne Peterson Braun on April 11, 1992. She died April 22, 2001. Mr. Dame was preceded in death by a grandchild. Survivors include two sons, Richard Dame, Elk Grove, Calif., and Ron Dame, Wichita; a stepson, Paul Pyles, Rushville, Mo.; two daughters, Kathy S. Elias, Atchison, and Janet L. Chapman, Rushville, Mo.; three stepdaughters, Sandy Maisch, Traverse City, Mich., Barbara Caniglia, Omaha, Neb., and Debora Gettler, Louisburg; two brothers, Raymond Dame, Atchison, and Sam Dame, Bakersfield, Calif.; six sisters, Bernice Hanshaw, Doris Guess, Margie Stone, Jackie Hinton and Nancy Haugness, all of Atchison, and Elizabeth Kuhnert, Rushville, Mo.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; and stepgreat-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Atchison. Burial will be at Mount Vernon Cemetery in Atchison.
