Read More	Shelburne Free Press & Economist - December 21, 1939 - WILLIAM RINTOUL: William Rintoul, an old and highly respected resident of North Amaranth, passed away at his home, Lot 21, Concession 3, on Sunday, December 10th, 1939. He was born near Galt in 1854, and when three weeks old was brought by his pioneer parents to the farm where he spent his entire life. He could recall many interesting episodes of those early pioneer days. In 1886 he married Margaret Currie. To this union were born two children, Jean (Mrs. James Rintoul), and Morton. His wife died in 1889, and some years later he married Fanny Armstrong, who survives him with a daughter and a son, Ellen (Mrs. Harold Cruikshank), Toronto, and Gordon, on the homestead. He is also survived by one sister and three brothers, Mrs. J. S. Wallace, Laurel; James, of Indian Head, Sask.; Alex. and David, of Amaranth, and eleven grandchildren. He was a kindlyman, much loved by his family and in the community where he had been a helpful and obliging neighbor for so many years. He was fond of music and reading. When a young man he had served for many years as precentor in the Black's Corners Church before the organ was introduced. To the end he read the papers and liked to discuss events and conditions with his family and friends. A short private service was held at the home at 12.45 o'clock on Wednesday, December 13th, followed by a largely attended service in the Whittington United Church, in which the deceased had been an elder since Church Union. These services were conducted by Rev. T. V. Hart, Rev. W. J. Booth and Rev. F. J. Dunlop. Interment took place in 4 Shelburne Cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs. W. J. Hamilton, Atkinson White, J. E. Spence, W. B. Sproule, Dan Currie and George Torrance. Many beautiful floral tributes expressed the sympathy of friends and the respect in which he was held. These were carried by Orval Wallace and Arthur Rintoul, Ross, Robert and Sam Cruikshank, grandsons, and Donald Farnell, a grandnephew.
