Deceased was born in Hanover, Germany, on May 14, 1835, and came to the United States with his parents at the age of two years, and when 7 years of age he came to Clayton county, where he lived until his death, his occupation being farming. He was married at Cassville, Wisconsin, to Miss Anna Kaiser on Sept 15, 1855, and to this union were born 12 children, two of which died in infancy and one daughter at the age of 22 years. He was a kind and true husband, father, grandfather and friend, always ready with heart and hand to do kind acts for those in need and therefore will be sadly missed by all who knew him. His death is deeply mourned by his aged widow, 3 sons, August of Guttenberg, William, and John of Jefferson twp, 6 daughters, Mrs. Katherine Hill of Wisconsin, Mrs. Anna Hendrickson of Gemmell, Minn., Mrs. Caroline Friedlein, of Millville, Iowa, Mrs. Emma Schorg, of Spencer, SD., Mrs. Minnie Morarend, of Osterdock, Iowa, and Mrs. Elizabeth Brandtman of Chicago, a number of grand children and a large circle of relatives and friends. The funeral was held this afternoon from his late home in Jefferson twp, Rev. K. W. Braun of Garnavillo, officiating, and same was largely attended. Interment was made in the city cemetery. +++ 1984 History of Clayton County, Iowa, pg. 626 William and Johanna Kaiser Rodenberg William Rodenberg, son of Christopher Rodenberg was born May 4, 1835, in Hanover, Germany. In 1840 he came to Cincinnati with his parents and their younger children. Leaving the hotel, Christopher took William with him and went in search of work. On returning to the hotel they found it had burned down and William's mother and the younger children had perished. In 1844, William and his father came to Guttenberg. Judge E. Price felt sorry for this motherless little boy and asked Christopher to let William stay with him. Judge Price had two sons and he raised and educated William along with them. Johanna Kaiser, daughter of Ludwig Kaiser and L. Schrader was born Oct. 21, 1836, in Banshaw, Mechlenberg-Schwerin, Germany. They came to New Orleans and up to Cincinnati in 1847. In 1853 they came to Iowa and lived near Garber. William Rodenberg and Johanna Kaiser were married in Cassville, Wis., in 1854 and lived on a farm in Jefferson Twp. four miles from Guttenberg. Their twelve children are: 1) Henry b. 1856. 2) Mary b. 1858. Both died in 1859 of diptheria. They were buried in a family cemetery near the house. 3) August b. April 11, 1860, m. Ida Schroeder, second wife Anna Bittner, died Dec. 31, 1935, buried in city cemetery. 4) Katherine b. 1862, m. William Mueller; moved out of state; died 1954. 5) Anna b. 1864 m., August Schrunk, moved to Minnesota. 6) Caroline b. 1866, m. Henry Friedlein, d. Oct. 24, 1964, buried city cemetery. 7) William b. 1868, m. Mary Freitag, buried city cemetery. 8) Emma b. 1870, m. John Schorg, moved to South Dakota. 9) John b. 1872, m. Doris Lindeman, buried city cemetery. 10) Wilhelmina (Minnie) b. 1874, m. Henry Morarend. 11) Elizabeth b. 1876, m. August Brantman, moved to Georgia. 12) Sophia b. March 10, 1879, m. Henry Clefisch, d. April 15, 1901, buried at Ceres. Except for the year William Rodenberg served his country in the Civil War, he and his wife lived on their farm in Jefferson Twp., where he served as assessor for many years. He died Nov. 24, 1913, and is buried in Guttenberg City Cemetery.
