Parkin retired as Jefferson County clerk of court March 31, 1965 after 30 years of courthouse service. He was born Feb. 15, 1898 at Sweetwater, Ill., the son of William H. and Martha Williams Parkin. He graduated from Moulton High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College. He was married to J. Pearle Park June 15, 1918. She preceded her husband in death March 6, 1969. Parkin came to Fairfield in 1923 when he accepted a position in the drafting department of the Louden Machinery Co. He began his courthouse duties in 1935 when he was appointed deputy treasurer. He was elected clerk of court in 1938, holding that office until his retirement. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Clinton Lodge 15, AF&AM. His family home was at 903 S. Main St. Parkin is survived by two sons, William L. Parkin, Alexandria, Va.; and Robert D. Parkin, Fairfield. Also surviving are one grandson and five granddaughters. One brother is deceased. ------------------- Note: > Son William L. Parkin died on September 24, 2015 in Virginia at the age of 91. As of Sept. 13, 2016 no F/A/G memorial for him has been established. Perhaps someone knowing if/when he was buried will make a credible memorial and link to the parents. > Son Robert D. Parkin died on Sept. 21, 2009. Although he has a headstone in Evergreen cemetery in Fairfield, Iowa, his cremains have not been buried.
