FORTY YEARS ON ONE FARM - - The whole community was shocked last Friday evening to learn of the death of William Weaver, one of Mills county's pioneers and oldest citizens. His death occurred at his residence one mile south of Malvern at about three o'clock in the afternoon and was due to heart failure. He had been up town the day before and was up and around in the morning of the day of his death. About nine o'clock he was taken ill with pains over his heart after exercising a little too hard at his morning chores and grew steadily worse until his death occurred about 3 o'clock. He had been sitting out on his veranda watching the people as they went by and had nodded or spoken to a number of his friends as they passed coming to town, so his death came as a great shock to them as they heard it before starting for home. Mr. Weaver had been in poor health for some time past and was subject to heart trouble so that it was not unexpected that he might go that way sometime. The funeral was held at the residence Monday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. C.M. Ward of the M.E. church at Glenwood. Messrs. Fred Stone and L.C. Stevenson and Mrs. A.E. Cook and Miss Bertha Bushnell sang. The funeral was one of the most largely attended ever seen here for he was widely known over the county through his many years residence here and was highly respected and looked up to by all who knew him for his many sterling qualities and strict integrity. Many beautiful floral emblems testified to the love and esteem in which he was held. William Weaver was born in Morris county, New Jersey, November 15, 1830. He was wedded to Miss Nancy J Van Doren at Dover, New Jersey, December 29, 1851. To them were born eight children, six boys and two girls, of whom four boys, J.S. of Pickering, Missouri; James of Strahan; Howard and Charles of Wendell, Minnesota survive him. All were here to attend the funeral. He is also survived by one brother, Moses Weaver of Strahan, who is the last member of the original family left living. They moved to this county September 28, 1857, and located on his farm near White Cloud in March 1865, where he lived forty years to a day when he and his good wife moved to their pleasant home one mile south of town. Mr. Weaver was a good citizen well respected and liked by all, and a good neighbor, a kind husband and father. He will be greatly missed. The sorrowing wife and sons have our heartfelt sympathy in their affliction.
