He had been ill only a short time with flue (sic) and this with complications caused his sudden death. Wendell would have been eighteen the latter part of May, and he would have graduated from Nelson high school with the Class in May. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, April 18, 1935 William Wendell, son of William and Hazel Statz, was born near Nelson, Nebraska, May 29, 1917 and passed away April 17, 1935, being nearly 18 years of age. During his short life Wendell has gone to school where in a few more weeks he would have completed his high school course, ready to face life's difficulities. Patient and uncomplaining he was his parents' constant help and companion, always willing and interested in whatever path duey led. At about the age of 14 he confessed his faith in Christ and was buried with the Lord in baptism. He has been a faithful worker in His cause ever since. Wendell always enjoyed taking part in his Sunday school work and was present every Lord's day when possible. After a very short illness the Lord called Wendell to Himself and early Wednesday morning he obeyed the summons. Besides his parents he leaves one brother, Raymond (NOTE: Should be Raymund), and four sisters: Doris, Elizabeth, Irene and Helen; his grandparents, Mrs. Anna Statz, Mr. and Mrs. M.A. Adamson, and many other relatives and friends who greatly mourn their loss.
