The mother is believed to have died on Dec. 16, 1850 in and buried in Massachusetts, but she does not have a FindAGrave memorial at this time. Note of interest: Willis's father, James N. Strong, died on Dec. 17, 1900 in Fairfield, Iowa. By coincidence, James' sister, Mary A. Strong Thomas, who lived together, died on the same date, just four hours before James died. Married on June 2, 1880 in Jefferson county, Iowa. --------------------- Fairfield Ledger Monday Oct. 5, 1931 Pg. 2 Col. 1 DEATH TAKES WILLIS STRONG Well Known Fairfield Resident Summoned Last Night Willis Noble Strong, well known Fairfield resident, passed away at his home, 703 North Court street about 7 o'clock last night. He had been confined to his bed for the past six months. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Hoskins funeral home in charge of the I.O.O.F lodge No. 629 and Rev. S.P. Williamson. Burial in Evergreen cemetery (sic. Old Fairfield City cemetery, an adjacent but separate cemetery where there is a Strong family plot). Mr. Strong was employed by the city fifty years out of the sixty that he had resided in Fairfield. He was street commissioner for twenty years. He has been an active member of I.O.O.F. lodge No. 629 since it was organized. He also belonged to Willis Strong Drum Corps. Besides his wife (sic. she is not named) he is survived by one son, Clifford of this city and one granddaughter, Virginia Mae Strong.
