Description	:	Wilma Jeannette (Shoberg) Erickson Carnell, 100, formerly of 806 Moore Street in Stratford, passed away at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center on Tuesday evening, November 16, 2010 where she had been a resident since October of 2006. Wilma was the daughter of J.W. and Edith (Hagstrom) Shoberg. She was born on December 18, 1909 on a farm 1 ½ miles west of Stratford. Read More	Wilma Jeannette (Shoberg) Erickson Carnell, 100, formerly of 806 Moore Street in Stratford, passed away at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center on Tuesday evening, November 16, 2010 where she had been a resident since October of 2006. Wilma was the daughter of J.W. and Edith (Hagstrom) Shoberg. She was born on December 18, 1909 on a farm 1 ½ miles west of Stratford. She was baptized as an infant at the Stratford Lutheran Church and joined the Calvary United Methodist Church in 1926. She attended school at the Eckstein Grade School and graduated from Stratford High School in 1928. Wilma married Roland D. Erickson on October 17, 1929. Two sons were born to this union, Duane and Ivyl "Dean". Roland passed away from severe burns on December 8, 1943, at the age of 34. Her second marriage was to LeRoy Carnell of Radcliff, Iowa on June 25, 1957 at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Carlos, sisters Ruby Carlstedt and Pauline Peterson; son Duane; a grandson Jeffrey Erickson; and her second husband Leroy Carnell. Wilma leaves one son, Ivyl "Dean" Erickson and wife Mary of Simi Valley, California; 3 grandchildren Duanna McCreery, LeeAnn Stewart and Tracy Bilchik. Her legacy also includes 6 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Her working life was always in the food industry as either working in a café or the proprietor of one, since 1938. She also worked at the Stratford School Lunch Program for eleven years, the Boone County Hospital approximately 7 years and also some time at the Head Start Program. Always the good cook, she collected an enormous amount of recipes which she enjoyed reading and testing prior to her failing eyesight. Her sense of humor never left, even in times of poor health. The family wishes to thank Rev. Dot Hasler and Rev. Gina Spohnheimer, all the wonderful people of Iowa Hospice including Trish, Kathy, Pastor Greg and the staff at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center, especially nieces Nadine, Marvalene, Avis and great-niece Brenda, who helped Wilma's transition from this world to Heaven. Services will be held on Tuesday morning, November 23rd at 10:00 a.m. in the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford with Rev. Dot Hasler officiating. Interment will be in the South Marion Cemetery southeast of Stratford. Friends may call at the Calvary United Methodist Church on Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends and Tuesday morning from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service.
