Irvin Strahan resident passed away three months after wife. The death of Winfield Scott Irvin, which occurred Tuesday, Jan. 28, just three months after the death of his wife on Oct. 26. Marked the passing of another aged couple of Strahan community. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin had lived in sStrahan for 28 years and were held in highest esteem by the people of that rural community. Mr. Irvin was Born Jan 10, 1861 near Argentine, Kan. he had just passed his 80th birthday. He was a mere infant when his father passed away and his mother married again. In the large family circle which he shared he did his part as a son, of that group but one is living, Mrs. John Williams of Miami, MO. Dec. 21 187 Mr. Irvin claimed Susan E. Burnside as his bride. They farmed near Miami and it was here that their eight children were born, three sons and five daughters. It was here that their children received their schooling. In 1911 they came to Iowa and for a year lived near Emerson. In 1912 they located in Strahan, which had been their home ever since. Mr. Irvin was a neighbor who was kind, considerate, always ready and willing to help in a time of need. If there was any one sick in the neighborhood he shared of his time in watchful care. This was the rural method of service before the modern age of hospitals and nurses. If a neighbor needed a lift he was there to share his strength. He was a friend to others in their time of need and found in others friends in his advancing years. Their Strahan home was close to the Methodist Church which they attended. When a revival meeting swept the rural community of their home in Missouri he went forward in response to the Evangelistic call. They attended the church at Strahan to which his wife transferred her membership. A son, Winfield Scott Irvin, died at the age of 10 months. The other members of the family who mourn his death are Mrs. Matt Barnes, Peoria, Ill., L. W. Irvin of Randolph, Mrs. Carl Salmons of Red Oak, Mrs. Emma Moore of Strahan, Mrs J. W. Mayfield of Tabor, McKinley W. Irvin of Craig, Neb., and Mrs. Leo Hirschman of Omaha. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Mansield Funeral Home in Malvern, conducted by Rev. Pter Jacobs, Pastor of the Congregational Church of Tabor. Mrs. Lisle Weatherhead of Tabor sang three solos, "There'll Be No Night There", "Old Rugged Cross" and I've Done My Work". Miss Blanch Dalton of Tabor was the accompanist. The floral tributes were cared for by Mrs. Ernest Wederquist, Mrs. Myrtle Welda and Mrs. Nina Crouse. Six grandchildren, Warren Salmons, Melvin Irvin, George Irvin, Paul Moore and Dean Mayfield, carried the casket. Interment was in the Malvern Cemetery. Thirty-one grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren mourn the death of their beloved grandparents. These two deaths have come within three months and the entire community in which this esteemed couple lived for more than a quarter of a century extends sympathy to the families that have been doubly bereft in so short a time.
