The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, January 24, 1974; pg. 1 ==================== Winston Leroy Flower, one of three children born to Claude and Ocie Cannon Flower, was born at Nelson, Nebraska on July 16, 1922. He was raised and educated at Nelson and lived in Nebraska most of his life. For eleven years he was a resident of North Platte, Nebraska and recently returned to live in Nelson. Winston was united in marriage to Kathleen Gemar on May 15, 1960. To this union two children, Michael and Patrick, were born. He served his county in World War II, serving in the United States Air Force with the 464th Fighter Squadron, 507th Fighter Group. He was preceded in death by his father, Claude. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his mother, Ocie, both of Nelson; two sons, Michael and Patrick; two children by a former marriage, Linda and David of Myton, Utah; two brothers, Duane of Englewood, Colorado and Lawrence of Fountain Valley, California; other relatives and numerous friends. The First Presbyterian Church of Nelson was his home church. Winston passed away on January 21, 1974, at the Veterans Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, after a lingering illness at the age of 51 years, 6 months and 5 days. Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon, January 24, 1974, at 2:00 p.m. from the First Presbyterian Church of Nelson with Pastor Forrest Grimm officiating. Soloist was Dale Hultine, accompanied by Mrs. Lloyd Hultine. Members of Nebraska Safety Patrol, North Platte Scale Section, members of Markel Services, Inc. attended, including many other relatives and friends. Interment and Military Rites were in the Nelson Cemetery. The Klawitter Funeral Home of Nelson, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
