Description : The Freeport Cemetery Company was incorporated in 1864 with the cemetery of approximately 10 acres situated on the hill in South Buffalo Township overlooking the town of Freeport. The first interment was 16 year old Electra Alter on 13 Apr 1864. The original cemetery was located in the town of Freeport opposite the Presbyterian Church, next to an old schoolhouse. The first white person buried within the limits of Freeport was Miss Fails, who had drowned while crossing Buffalo Creek in 1794. Many of the pioneers of the town were buried in this cemetery.
