Description : The Nicolaakerk is one of the earliest brick churches in Friesland and was originally dedicated to Nicolas of Myra. The single-aisled church was built in the 13th century in Romanesque style and still shows all kinds of traces of its history. It has beautiful round-arched windows, a piscina, a hagioscope and a concealed gate. The modest nineteenth-century interior is still fully present. There are several tangible remnants of the bond with the noble family that meant a lot to the village: the Ayttas. Two burial vaults of the Aytta family have been uncovered in the church.
