Description	:	This cemetery contains two sections separated by an old metal fence. The largest portion on the easterly side was consecrated for burials from St Mary parish, with a smaller section on the westerly end reserved as a private burial ground for Henry Ellison and his family. This is the second location in Beverley to be developed for the burial of parishioners from St Mary Church. The largest portion on the easterly side was consecrated for burials from St Mary parish, with a smaller section on the westerly end reserved as a private burial ground for Henry Ellison and his family. This is the second location in Beverley to be developed for the burial of parishioners from St Mary Church. The first location is the St Mary Churchyard immediately adjacent to the church building where burials continued to about 1859. A third cemetery on Molescroft Road was consecrated for use by St Mary’s parish in 1869. Burials at the North Bar Within cemetery started in 1829. The cemetery was closed to new burials in 1869 except for those in existing plots. In 1955, St Mary parish transferred the North Bar Within burial ground to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The Council used the eastern portion of the burial ground to create a green space known as The Coronation Gardens. This was intended to commemorate the 1953 Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Headstones from the original burial ground were moved to rest along the walls of the Garden, although the Ellison family grave monuments are still in situ at the westerly end of the cemetery. Burial registers for St Mary parish are available at the East Riding Archives (Treasure House, Champney Road, Beverley, HU17 8HE).
