Description	:	Thurmaston TURMODESTONE was the name when the Doomsday record was drawn up in 1085 by order of William the Conqueror. The place probably derived from an Anglo Saxon chief called Turmod. Originally there were two small communities. The late Canon Botterill, (Vicar of Thurmaston 1930-1969) believed South Thurmaston to have been essentially a Saxon community, and the north to have been Viking in its origin.
