Description	:	Aileen Wehrkamp, 93, of Hartford, SD, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2008, at the Sanford Centennial Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls, SD. Aileen Sheppard, daughter of C. Oscar Sr. and Bertha (Gunn) Sheppard, was born on May 30, 1915, in Centerville, SD. As a young girl, the family moved to Montrose, SD, where she grew up and attended school. Read More	Aileen Wehrkamp, 93, of Hartford, SD, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2008, at the Sanford Centennial Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls, SD. Aileen Sheppard, daughter of C. Oscar Sr. and Bertha (Gunn) Sheppard, was born on May 30, 1915, in Centerville, SD. As a young girl, the family moved to Montrose, SD, where she grew up and attended school. Aileen was united in marriage with Walter Wehrkamp on June 11, 1941, at the Ramsey Baptist Church in Montrose, SD. The couple farmed in the Hartford area and raised a family. Walter and Aileen managed the Central Valley Clubhouse from 1972 to 1973. Aside from working at Smitty's Pancake House in Sioux Falls, Aileen helped Walter on the farm until they retired in 1980. In retirement the couple traveled down south and spent 18 winters in Arizona. Walter passed away on September 27, 1994. Aileen was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church near Hartford where she was a Sunday school teacher and later the Superintendent of the Sunday school. She also made sure to spend time playing cards with her friends at the Hartford Senior Center. Aileen was a very caring mother that always thought of her family first. She was known for having wonderful Christmases and made sure to fly back from Arizona to be with her family. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Duane Wehrkamp and his wife Jean, Layton Wehrkamp and his wife Donna, Bonne Jeanne Spisak, all of Hartford, SD; a brother, Wilbur Sheppard and his wife Carol, Coeur D' Alene, ID; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel and Thomas Spisak, Sara Jeanne Miller, and Joe, Jared, Megan, and Reed Wehrkamp; four great-grandchildren, Steven, T. J., Treton, and Ethan; one great-grandchild on the way; and many other relatives and friends Aileen was preceded in death by her husband Walter; sisters, Julia Marcelline Sheppard and Lucille Persing; and brothers, John Nelson, Cecil, Maurice, C. Oscar Sheppard, Jr. and Howard. The family requests that memorials be directed to the Hartford Senior Citizens Center or to the Gideon's.
