Boswell Is Held for Grand Jury. As a Result of injuries received on the evening of October 22, when Franklin C. Boswell, a young farmer of glen Montgomery County, Md., struck him on the back of the head with a quart bottle of whisky. Aaron R. Hewitt bailiff of Rockville, died at 6 o'clock last night. Although the blow he received rendered Hewitt unconscious, he quickly called and the following day was able to attend his duties as bailiff. About two weeks ago, however, he began to grow worse and Tuesday of last week was sent to the hospital, where he was operated on that afternoon. Mr. Hewitt was a son of the late Richard Hewitt, and was forty-six years old. Surviving him are his wife, two sons, and two daughters. he is also survived by his mother and several brothers and sisters, one of his brothers being Frank L. Hewitt of silver Spring. Boswell was arrested on a charge of asset with intent to murder, and the following day was released on bail. when Hewitt's condition became so serious, however, he was rearrested and committed to jail without bail. The charge against him will be changed to murder, and it is thought likely that the grand jury which adjourned here yesterday afternoon will be reconvened to consider the case. Hewitt's body was removed to Rockville last night by Undertaker W. R. Humphrey, accompanied by Dr. Manner, the county coroner. Published in The Washington Herald, November 20, 1914 AARON R. HEWITT DIES FROM BLOW ON HEAD Injury Alleged to Have Been Inflicted by Franklin C. Boswell in Rockville Aaron R. Hewitt bailiff of Rockville, died shortly before 6 o'clock last evening in Georgetown University Hospital, where he has been under treatment about ten days for injuries received the evening of October 22, when it is alleged, Franklin C.Boswell, twenty-seven years old, a farmer of the vicinity of Glen Montgomery county, struck him on the back of the head with a quart bottle partly filled with whisky. At first his injuries and within a day or two after receiving the blow he was able to attend to his duties as bailiff. About two weeks ago, however, his condition began to grow worse,and Tuesday of last week he was taken to the hospital, and was operated on that afternoon. Since thence had covered between life and death. Long a Resident of Rockville Mr. Hewitt was forty-six years old and was a son of the late Richard Hewitt. He was born in Canada, but had lived in Montgomery county practically his entire life. Surviving him are his widow, who was a Miss Burroughs of Montgomery county; two daughters and two sons. He is also survived by his mother and several sisters and brothers, one of his brothers being Frank L. Hewitt of Silver Spring. The funeral arrangements have not been completed. Boswell, it is alleged, was under the influence of liquor at the time he is said to have struck the officer. Boswell has just been cautioned to be more careful about his language and conduct, and Bailiff hewitt was, it is said walking away from Boswell when the bailiff was struck with the bottle. Charged With Murderous Assault Immediately afterward Boswell was arrested on a change of assault with intent to murder, and the following day was released on bail. It is thought probable that the county grand jury the case immediate consideration. Boswell is unmarried. Published in the Evening Star, November 20, 1914 GRAND JURY WILL ACTON HEWITT CASE Death of Rockville Bailiff May Bring Indictment- Boswell Arrested Franklin C. Boswell,the young Montgomery county farmer who has been under arrest at Rockville for two weeks on a charge of having assaulted Aaron R. Hewitt, a bailiff, of Rockville, with a bottle, may have to stand trail on a charge of manslaughter or murder as the result of the death of Hewitt at Georgetown University Hospital last night. it is the opinion f Montgomery county officials today that the Montgomery county grand jury, which adjourned yesterday, will be reconvened immediately to investigate the details of Hewitt's death. The trouble whittled to the tragedy occurred in the main street of Rockville, October 22. Hewitt, according to information obtained by the authorities of the town, had reprimanded Boswell on account of a noisy conversation which was being carried on in a gathering of farmers. The bailiff, immediately following the incident, was struck on the back of the head with a quart bottle of whisky. Boswell was arrested and released on bail, as Hewitt immediately recovered from the effects of the blow and was ablate resume his duties as bailiff the following day. Two weeks ago, however, the condition of Hewitt became such that he had to give up his work, and last Tuesday afternoon, and for a while showed slight signs of recovery. Boswell, who lives at Glenwood, Md., was rearrested at the time Hewitt's condition changed for the worse, ands been in custody at the Rockville jail ever since. Hewitt was a son of the late Richard Hewitt, prominent resident of Rockville. Besides his wife, two sons and two daughters, Hewitt is survived by his mother and several brothers and sisters, one of his brothers being F. L. Hewitt, Of Silver Spring. Hewitt was, it is charged, viciously assaulted by Franklin Boswell of Glen, when he attempted to place the latter under arrest on a charge of disorderly conduct. Hewitt was struck on the head eh a whisky bottle and knocked down, and was kicked. Deputy Sheriff Preston Hewitt, son of the Bailiff, landed Boswell in jail.He was released on Bail. Hewitt) for Speeding In enforcing the town ordinance limiting the speed of motor vehicles within the corporation limits to twelve miles an hour. Bailiff Aaron R. Hewitt found it necessary to arrest his son, Preston, who was fined $5 and costs. Upon pleasing guilty to a similar offense. Edward H. Deets of Rockville was also fined $5 and costs. Hewitt has been appointed bailiff of Rockville in place of his father, who died a few days ago as result of injuries received several weeks ago. A large number of guests from Rockville and other points were present. During the evening refreshments were served.
