Hotovec, 89, of Pocahontas, died May 29, 1996, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital. Services were Saturday, June 1 at the Resurrection Catholic Church in Pocahontas with the Revs. Merle Kollasch and Paul Alvey officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Pocahontas. Survivors include his wife, Abbie, Pocahontas; sons, Bill Hotovec, Des Moines, and Norman Hotovec, Reseda, CA; daughters, Donna Hibbs, Panora, and Mary Ann Longley, Reedsburg, WI; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters. Jerry Joseph Hotovec was born Nov. 14, 1908 near Pocahontas. He attended Ware Grade School in Ware and Sacred Heart High School in Pocahontas. He graduated from Pocahontas High School in Pocahontas. He graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1925, and he married Abbie Sernett in 1932 at Rolfe. The couple settled in Pocahontas where they lived their entire married life, where he owned and operated a service station known as Jerry’s DX and later as Jerry’s Mobil from 1931 until 1962, when he began working for the Pocahontas Liquor Store. He retired in 1975. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Legion of Mary.”
