Description	:	Abe was the 11th child of 14 children born to C.V. and Kathrine (Fast) Giesbrecht. Raised and educated in Winton, Merced County, California. On October 15, 1944 he married Edna Mae Voth in Winton, CA. Edna was a daughter of David T. and Minnie (Eck) Voth. They had 8 children, the first 4 born in the Turlock hospital while living on a farm north of Winton. Abe grew peaches and apricots and had a cutting shed on the farm. Obit from Messenger of Truth Issue 26, 2005: Abraham Enos Giesbrecht was born on February 10, 1922, to Cornelius and Katherine Fast Giesbrecht near Winton, California. He peacefully left this life on November 23, 2005, at Enloe Hospital, Chico, California, reaching the age of eighty-three years. Dad's childhood was spent at Winton and Firebaugh, California. He had an active youth, being reared in a family with seven brothers and five sisters. As a boy Dad realized his lost state and condition, and by turning to the Lord he received forgiveness of his sins and peace with God. Min. F. H. Wenger baptized him at Winton, California, on April 27, 1936. He found his life's companion in our mother, Edna Voth. They were married at Burns, Kansas, on October 15, 1944, sharing their lives for sixty-one years. To this union were born three sons and six daughters. We will always remember Dad's faithful care for Mother in the years of her declining health. Dad had a friendly, outgoing personality and was given to hospitality. We remember many Sundays when company came for dinner. Whether strangers or friends, they were always welcome. He was easily moved by the needs of others. He reached out to his fellowmen in his work with Christian Disaster Relief and his involvement with Grace Home, Livingston, California. His heart of compassion was seen in helping send food and supplies where he felt there was need, both near and far. Dad loved the Church and faithfully attended the services and supported the work. Dad enjoyed making a living for his family. While he lived at Winton, California, he had a fruit orchard and moved houses for hire. In 1952, he, with his family, moved to Glenn, California, being one of the charter members of the new congregation. He farmed and did custom work for a livelihood. He was always eager to face life's challenges. Dad was a lover of all children and truly a loving grandfather. He and Mother always enjoyed traveling to visit their children, family, and friends. He was concerned for the salvation of us as a family. He often acknowledged his own unworthiness of all the Lord had done for him. We have the assurance that he has gone to his heavenly home. Those left to cherish fond memories are his wife, Edna; eight children: Vada, Mrs. Vernon Dyck, Glenn, California; Bernice, Mrs. Eldon Wenger, Hesston, Kansas; Betty, Mrs. Dennis Spence, Othello, Washington; Abe Jr. and wife, Rose, Glenn, California; Howard and wife, Bonita, Glenn, California; Bill and wife, Sharon, Glenn, California; Jane, Mrs. Shawn Giesel, Hesston, Kansas; Sharon, Mrs. Roger Giesbrecht, Othello, Washington; son-in-law, Randal Toews and wife, Roberta, Glenn, California; thirty-four grandchildren and fifty-six great-grandchildren; one brother, Pete Giesbrecht, Brooksville, Mississippi; three sisters: Mary Unruh, Bonners Ferry, Idaho; Sarah, Mrs. Jake Friesen, Buhl, Idaho; and Eva, Mrs. Gerald Davis, Hillsboro, Kansas; sisters-in-law: Marianne Giesbrecht, Frances Giesbrecht, Mary Giesbrecht, and Myrtle Koehn. His parents, seven brothers and two sisters, one daughter and two great-grandchildren preceded him in death. Funeral services were held on November 29, 2005, at the Glenn Mennonite Church, Glenn, California. Officiating ministers were David Spence, Robert Koehn, and Les Amoth.
