Stanford, 87, native of Fairfield; died today at the Saint Joseph hospital in Ottumwa, where he had been a patient for the past six weeks. He had been in failing health two months and seriously ill about four weeks. His death came at 12:20 a.m. this morning. Mr. Stanford was born in Fairfield on April 16, 1860, the son of the late Abram and Nancy Bradshaw Stanford. In 1907 he moved to Lyford, Texas, from a farm north of Fairfield. While in Texas he was a fruit grower and farmer. He moved back to this community in 1927. He had been a farmer all his life and was a member of the Methodist church. Mr. Stanford is survived by the following children: Clarence, Milwaukee; Mrs. Walter Moss, Atlanta, Georgia; Frank L., San Antonio, Texas; Mrs. Wayne Harris, Fairfield; Fred H., Raymondville, Texas; and Robert B., Ottumwa. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. The body is at the Hoskins funeral home where last rites are pending. Last rites will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the Hoskins funeral home with A.K.Harper in charge and assisted by Dr. L.H.Scheerer. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery." ----------- The Newland monument at Evergreen Cemetery is flanked on the south side by George Newland; on the immediate north side is a joint headstone for Anna Blough Newland Stanford and her (she remarried) husband Abraham Lincoln Stanford. ----------- Note: Marriage #2 was to Elizabeth "Lizzie" McMunn, born about 1865 in Armstrong County, PA. They were married December 31, 1885 in Jefferson County by Rev. A.S.Doughty (brother-in-law of ALS, known as Adam Samuel Doughty, who was a Free Methodist minister). Evidently Lizzie McMunn Stanford died in September 1916 in Lyford, Texas where the Stanford's lived. Her burial location has not been located in research yet. Survived by three sons: Frank, Fred, and Robert. Any family or burial information would be appreciated.
