Butler; G.F. Gray Solomon Valley Democrat, Oct. 28, 1887, page 4: DEATH OF ABRAM BUTLER Another of the "salt of the earth" has been borne hence, from our midst to the life beyond. Abram Butler, a man of public works, a benefactor, a man that commanded the esteem and respect of the community in which he lived, expired Oct. 15, 1887, after a lingering illness and was laid to sleep -- "the long sleep" in the Glasco cemetery Oct. 16. Briefly his life was as follows: Born in Belmont county, Ohio, Oct. 30, 1830, moved to Warren county, Ohio, when a child, and here his young manhood developed. Married Nov. 7th, 1852. Served in the War of the Rebellion. Moved to Kansas in 1870. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic; of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Knights of Pythias, in all these fraternities he distinguished himself as a worker and a loyal brother. He leaves a mourning wife, three sons and two orphan grand-children. As a result of his labors the family are left in comfortable circumstances. Was a member of the Presbyterian church, a man of strong convictions and unswerving in upholding the right. The three Fraternities to which he belonged assisted in the burial services. The funeral was the largest that ever before occurred in Glasco. The bereaved family have the sympathies of all, and they know how, and to whom to look for comfort. Glasco Sun, Nov. 5, 1887, page 4: Abram Butler was born in Belmont County, Ohio, October 30, 1830, was married to Hannah Hicks, November 7th, 1852. He was the father of seven children, four of which are dead, he came to Kansas and located in Solomon township in 1870, where he lived up to the time of his death, Oct. 15th, 1887. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, and while on his death bed he said he put his trust in Jesus and that he believed God had forgiven his sins. He was perfectly rational up to the hour of his death recognizing the friends who were present and bidding all good bye, shaking hands with them only after he grew too weak to speak. He leaves a wife and three children to mourn his loss. (also) Resolution of Condolence Whereas, Our honored friend and brother Knight, Abram Butler, has been by death taken from us. And Whereas, Victory Lodge No. 16 Knights of Pythias, knowing the worth of our deceased brother and realizing the loss sustained by his death, to lodge, family and friends, do hereby Resolve, We sincerely and deeply mourn his death and extend to his family an assurance of our heartfelt sympathy in their loss. Resolved, This lodge wear for thirty days our badge of mourning, and that these resolutions be entered on record of our lodge. Resolved, A copy of these resolutions be provided the family of our deceased brother and they be offered for publication in the Glasco Sun. John Hillhouse G.B. Vanlandingham L.
