Butler, pioneer of this community, passed away at the Beloit Community hospital Sunday, December 24, 1950. He had been in failing health for several months. In his passing, Glasco loses one of its most valuable and most highly respected citizens. Always standing for the best things in life, holding fast to high ideals, Mr. Butler was a leader in building this community. He numbered his friends by his acquaintances. Edward Everett Butler, son of Abram and Hannah Butler, was born near Morrowtown, Ohio, February 11, 1865, and passed from this life December 24, 1950, at the age of 85 years, 10 months, and 13 days. He was one of a family of seven children, four sons and three daughters. The only surviving one of the family is Walter Butler of this city. Edward came with his parents to Kansas in the year 1870. The Butlers were pleased with the Solomon valley, and homesteaded a farm three miles south of Glasco, where Ed grew to manhood; while yet a young man he loved the great out-of-doors and working the soil. He assisted his father on the farm, planting and harvesting the crops. He soon acquired land of his own, and became a successful farmer and grower of livestock. The hardships of pioneering never discouraged him. He always looked to a brighter future. He stood for high ideals. He wanted good schools, strong churches, a foundation for good citizenry and an aggressive country. He was reared in a Christian home, and in his early manhood united with the First Christian church of Glasco, Kansas; then meeting in the old building. In 1915, it was decided to build this structure. Mr. Butler was chairman of the building committee, and in less than a year they dedicated this church. He was Elder of the Christian church for 52 years. He has been a faithful member, always attending the church while his health permitted. He was interested in the First National Bank of Glasco, had been a member of the board of directors for a number of years, and was vice president at the time of his death. April 24th, 1911, he was united in marriage with Miss Allie Lunetta Woodward. They established their home on the Butler homestead, a modern house was built, and from this home radiated that warm welcome, love and fellowship for all. Because of failing health, Mr. and Mrs. Butler purchased a smaller house in Glasco, moving from the farm January, 1949. Mr. Butler is survived by his wife, Mrs. Allie L. Butler; one brother, Walter Butler; two nieces, Mrs. Pansy McClellan, and Mrs. Eva Borgen; two nephews, Mr. Ward Butler and Mr. Clair Butler; six great nieces, Mrs. Bernice Trostle, Faye Ellen, Carol and Nancy Trostle, Barbara Butler and Jannet McClellan; four great nephews, Maxwell and Richard McClellan, Billy Borgen, Clair Edward Butler. Edward was a friend to everyone and will be greatly missed in his home and in this community. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, December 27th, at 2:00 o'clock at the Christian church, with the Rev. Wayne Testerman in charge. "Abide with Me" and "Beyond the Sunset" were sung by Mrs. Harold Dalrymple and Mrs. Howe Jordan, accompanied at the piano by Mes. Edw. Berndt. Pallbearers were Jean Noel, Richard fetters, Jesse Martin, Kenneth Schartz, and John Harper, Jr. Flower ladies were Mrs. Kenneth Schwartz, Mrs. Verna Nutland, Miss Phyllis Struble, and Mrs. Earl Beaver. Interment was in the Glasco cemetery with McDonald Funeral Home in charge.
