Read More	Glasco Sun, July 3, 1947, page 1: ADAH SNYDER PILCHER PASSED AWAY SUNDAY Adah Snyder Pilcher, daughter of Henry and Phoebe Snyder, was born one-half mile west of Glasco January 26, 1872, and died in (a) Concordia hospital June 29, 1947, at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 3 days. Capt. and Mrs. Snyder were married in Indiana December 24, 1845. Five children were born there. The family came to Kansas and settled on their homestead one-half miles west of Glasco in 1867, where Adah and four other children were born. They built a dugout and lived in it through the pioneer period of this community. Indian raids were numerous in and around the Republican and Solomon Valley during those days, and on August 11, 1868, this immediate locality was raided by a band of Cheyennes. Several people were killed and wounded in that raid, Adah's older brother being one of the seriously wounded. A few years later the family built a stone house of four rooms and lived there until 1879, when they moved to Glasco. There were ten children in the Snyder family, and all except one sister, Mrs. Belle Martin, preceded her in death. Adah was married to Charley Pilcher February 7, 1895, and lived on their farm northeast of Glasco until her husband passed away on July 11, 1914. To this union five children were born. One died in infancy, and Clifford and Lawrence passed away in their late thirties. Mrs. Pilcher became a member of the Methodist church of Glasco at an early age, and was a faithful and consistent worker there. She was especially interested in the Aid organizations and was always present for all its meetings as long as her health permitted. She was a loving mother and friend to those who knew her. Her presence will be greatly missed by many, having lived in this community most of her three score and ten years of her life. She leaves to mourn, her two daughters, Mrs. Ed McClellan and Mrs. Guy Hillan, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Nelle Pilcher, six grandsons, three granddaughters, and four great grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Belle Martin, many nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends. One granddaughter, Lila Pilcher, passed away about two years ago. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday morning, July 2, at 10:00 o'clock, the Rev. C.L. Moody officiating. Singers were Mrs. Howe Jordan and Mrs. Fred Harper, accompanied by Mrs. O.L. Norton. Pallbearers were Charley McClellan, Luther Pilcher, Melvin Doering, Darrell Hillan, Luke Pilcher and Max Pilcher. Flower bearers were Mrs. Dorothy Schramek, Mrs. Frances Doering, Mrs. Betty Ann Hillan and Mrs. Cecelia McClellan. Interment was in the family plot in Glasco cemetery, with the Griffith Funeral Home in charge.
