Snyder, in Kansas City, April 5, 1916, marks the passing of another one of the early settlers of Cloud county. Captain Snyder came to this county in 1866 and took up a homestead one-half mile west of the city. He was here during all the Indian troubles, and was active in organizing and naming the cities of Glasco and Concordia. Glasco was platted and known as Dell Ray. The post office was established in 1869, and Mr. Snyder was the first postmaster. He went west in 1883 where he spent most of his time until his death. Captain Snyder was a veteran of the Civil War. He enlisted in the Eighth Indiana Cavalry in 1861, and was mustered out June 23, 1865. Captian H.C. Snyder was born in Warren county, Ohio, April 7, 1832, and died April 5, 1916. He was the eldest of ten children, two of whom survive him. They are Dexter Snyder of Hamilton, Mo., and Mrs. Charity Looney of Breckeridge, Mo. December 24, 1854, he was married to Phoebe Murfin at Frankfort, Indiana. To this union was born ten children, four of whom are living. They are W.G. Snyder of Kansas City; Mrs. J.H. Martin, Mrs. Adah Pilcher and Mrs. C.N. Franks of Glasco.
