"Tat," as he was known to us all, in company with his brother, Harry Deo, was boring a well on the farm, where Ben Wahman resides. It seems that when down about twenty-five feet, the auger struck a rock, and "Tat" went down to get it. When asked if he was at the bottom, he told Harry that he was. Harry then asked him if he could get the rock. He answered, "No, pull me up," which Harry did as quick as he could, but the deadly damp had done its work. All that medical science and skill could be done. Obituary next week. Stratford Courier November 23, 1899 IN MEMORIAM. A.L. Deo met his death Wednesday afternoon, November 15, on the Litchfield farm occupied by Ben Wahman, by being overcome with gas while endeavoring to remove a rock from the bottom of the well which he and his brother were boring. He was born at Elk Run, Clinton county, Iowa, October 3, 1860, and came with his parents to Hook's Point in 1870 and to Stratford in 1882, where he has since resided. Mr. Deo was married to Miss May Wilson, December 25, 1891 and as the fruits of their union, two children were born, Miss Mildred and Master Ray. His wife and two children, his father and mother, 3 brothers and 1 sister remain to mourn his death, 2 brothers having preceded him to the great beyond. "Tat's" home and family were his pride and it seemed to be his greatest pleasure to be with them. As a neighbor and citizen, the turnout to his funeral spoke more than anything we can say. He was a dutiful father and husband, a cheerful son, a true friend, a good neighbor, and a trusted citizen. The funeral services were held at the M.E. church, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The church was beautifully decorated with house plants, and many beautiful flower designs, among which was a lovely wreath of white roses from the Ladies' Aid Society, and a beautiful pillow, on which the words, "At Rest," as a tribute of respect and esteem from the business men and citizens of Stratford. Rev. E.A. Hoelscher, pastor of the M.E. church, preached a very appropriate sermon from the text taken from the 121st Psalm, 4th verse: "Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep." A large concourse of people followed the remains to the Oakwood cemetery, where he will sleep until the resurrection morn. A Card of Thanks. To our many friends we would say accept our heartfelt thanks for the many kindnesses shown us during the death and burial of our dearly beloved husband, father, son and brother.
