Deo, post-master at Stratford, and one of the most highly respected young men in the south part of Hamilton county, died at his house in Stratford, last Thursday night, Nov. 14th, after enduring ill health for the past two years, and a painful and serious sickness for several weeks. He was 32 years of age and leaves a young, devoted wife and two small children to mourn the loss of one whose place can never be filled. The funeral was held at the M. E. Church, in Stratford, last Sunday afternoon with sermon by the pastor, the services at the grave being conducted by the Good Templar's lodge, of which he was a faithful and consistent member. The services were very largely attended and it is said the remains were followed to their last resting place by the largest concourse of friends ever known in that part of the county. His memory will long remain fresh in the hearts of all who knew him. Webster City Freeman November 20, 1889 STRATFORD A deep gloom has fallen over Stratford and vicinity caused by the death of Claud V. Deo, who died November 14th, with typhoid fever. His sickness lasted only about two weeks. He was our postmaster, and gave general satisfaction; was a member of the I.O.G.T., which organization will conduct the funeral ceremonies at the church tomorrow. Rev. Kiernan will preach the funeral sermon. A petition has been circulated and sent to "headquarters," asking that Mrs. Deo be appointed postmistress. Webster City Freeman November 27, 1889 In Memoriam. In memory of C.V. Deo, who died Nov. 14, 1889, at Stratford, Iowa. Fare thee well, dear friend and brother, How we miss thee none can tell; But we know the Lord hath called thee, And we hope that all is well. Thou art gone but not forgotten, Well remembered, though not seen. In the hearts of those who love thee Thy memory will be ever green. When we gather in our lodge hall There will be one vacant chair, And we'll watch in vain the coming Of he, who often met us there. And we'll try to be more earnest In the cause that thou didst love, Hoping our poor, feeble efforts Will receive help from above. The band boys, how they'll miss thee When the practice evenings come, And they're waiting for the members, Claud will never, never come. Oh, the broken family circle! They will watch and wait in vain For the coming of the loved one Who can never come again Loving husband and kind father, Faithful friend and brother dear, Loving son and temperance worker, Fare thee well forever here. - S.H. At the regular meeting of the Stratford Lodge No. 245, I.O.G.T., the following resolutions were passed: WHEREAS, It has pleased Almighty God to remove from our midst, by the hand of death, our brother, C.V. Deo, be it Resolved, That we sincerely regret his untimely loss; he was a faithful and efficient member of our order. We extend our heartfelt sympathy and condolence to the bereaved ones.
