Ms. Swope was born in Indianapolis, Ind. on April 25, 1943, a daughter of the late Delbert and Annette Epps Reesor. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Conway. Swope CONWAY Agnes Reesor Swope , 60, of Main Street, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003 at her residence after a prolonged battle with cancer. Ms. Swope was born in Indianapolis, Ind. on April 25, 1943, a daughter of the late Delbert and Annette Epps Reesor. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Conway. Ms. Swope grew up in Conway and graduated from Conway High School and briefly attended Winthrop College for vocal training before marrying Fred C. Swope of Fairfield, Va. She lived in Lexington, VA until she returned to her family home in 1994. Ms. Swope sustained her love for music throughout her life and was involved in numerous musical endeavors. She sang in the Rockbridge Community Chorus, Limekiln's Stonewall Country, Good Shepherd Lutheran choir, and the Lexington Presbyterian choir. Ms. Swope also participated in several Henry Street Playhouse musicals. Additionally, she founded and directed the Good Shepherd Lutheran Children's Choir and the Virginia Military Institute Chapel Choir during the 1980's. Upon her return to Conway she sang in the First United Methodist choir taking part in their European tour in 1997. She sang solos for two Theatre of the Republic Fundraiser's, carrying on her family's love of music and theatre in the tradition of her aunt, Florence Theodora Epps, who helped found the Theatre of the Republic. She was also actively involved in both Virginia and South Carolina Garden Club chapters. Surviving are two daughters, Caroline Theodora Swope of Tacoma, Wash., and Laura Swope Townsend of Fayetteville, N.C.; one sister, Judith Caroline Hutchinson of Linthicum Heights, Md.; one brother Thomas William Reesor of Conway; and one grandson, Andrew Carlton Townsend of Fayetteville, N.C. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Conway with the Rev. Ben Barnett and the Rev. Carl Harris officiating. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel is in charge. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at her residence, 514 Main Street.
