Description	:	A. Scott Johnson, 86 years of age, a long time resident and businessman in Wenatchee, passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at Central Washington Hospital. Scott was born in Oakesdale, WA on December 16, 1920, to James "Jim" A. and Iva M. (Scott) Johnson. His father, Jim, moved his family to Malaga, arriving on March 15, 1922, to begin a 17 year position as production manager of the W. S. Scott was born in Oakesdale, WA on December 16, 1920, to James "Jim" A. and Iva M. (Scott) Johnson. His father, Jim, moved his family to Malaga, arriving on March 15, 1922, to begin a 17 year position as production manager of the W. S. Batterton Ranch, a 40 acre mixed fruit orchard, (apple, pear, peach and apricot) until Batterton's death in 1938. Scott attended Malaga Elementary School, Wenatchee Ellison Junior High School and Wenatchee High School. After school and during the summer vacations, like most teenagers raised on an orchard during the Great Depression, Scott began working at age 13, doing whatever was needed that he could physically handle and usually was paid whatever was handy. During 1938 and 1939, when warehouse activity made something available, he did general jobs. Scott was married to Marion Borkgren on March 15, 1940, in Wenatchee and they moved to Klamath Falls, OR. He worked as an Auto Parts Clerk and Assistant Service Manager for an Auto Dealership. They later moved back to Wenatchee in anticipation of required military service and Scott entered the U.S. Army, serving two years and attaining the rank of Tech Sergeant. Following his honorable discharge, Scott again worked in auto parts as a Salesman for E. T. Pybus Co., and others in Wenatchee. He decided to make a career change in 1955, and after studying for and passing the Washington State Real Estate License Exam, he became a Salesman in the Lacey area. Also in 1955, Congress funded the Interstate Highway project and he was offered a job in the Right-of-Way Division of the Washington State Highway Commission as an Acquisition Agent. Very soon, he was promoted to Appraiser and went on to become Appraisal Supervisor of Right-of-Way acquisitions for I-5 through Seattle. In February of 1961, Scott was offered the position of Chief Appraiser for the Right-of-Way Division with the Montana State Highway Commission and he and Marion moved to Helena, MT. After spending two and one-half years in Montana, Scott and Marion moved back to Wenatchee and he opened his own office as an Independent Appraiser. From 1963 through 1967, he contracted numerous jobs which included the Right-of-Ways for Wells Dam, Interstate Highways 82, 90 and others. In 1967, Scott and his son, Dennis formed a partnership that became the foundation for Johnson's Real Estate Inc. Their company was a widely diversified company that offered Real Estate Sales, Appraising, Property Management, Development and more. This company was sold in 1989, and a new company was formed which still operates today known as Pacific Appraisal Associates. He is survived by his daughter, Judy Merselis of Tustin, CA; his son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Sharron Johnson of Wenatchee; one sister, Maxine Johnson of Wenatchee; four grandchildren, Bill Merselis of Tustin, CA, Kati Groce of Houston, TX, Suzanne Johnson of Wenatchee and Scott Johnson of Seattle; and three great grandchildren, Megan Groce of Houston, TX and Lane and Lauren Johnson both of Wenatchee. Scott was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Marion. Commemoration Services will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Jones and Jones Funeral Home. Concluding Services and the Interment will follow in Wenatchee Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may make memorial donations in Scott's name to the Central Washington Hospital Foundation, c/o P.O. Box 1887, Wenatchee, WA 98807. Arrangements are in care of the Jones and Jones Funeral Home.
