Married 1860 to Anna Hansz. SENECA TRIBUNE, Seneca, Kansas, Thursday, June 3, 1915. ANDREW BEYREIS With the passing of Andrew Beyreis on Monday, May 31, at the age of eighty years, the community north of Seneca lost one of its most highly respected citizens and the county one of the men who from an early day had been intimately associated with its growth and development. Mr. Beyreis was a German by birth and came to the United States at the age of eighteen years. The colony that came over at that time settled in Milwaukee and there Mr. Beyreis was married fifty-five years ago to Anna Hanz, a sister of Michael Hanz. In 1872, Mr. and Mrs. Beyreis and the3ir six small children joined the emigrants westward bound. They located on land in the extreme north edge of Nemaha township, a mile from the state line. That became their homestead and until his death, Mr. Beyreis made it his home. He was one of the sturdy pioneers, taking his pl;ace in the front ranks for the betterment of his community and the advancement of the county and state with which he had cast his lot. On July 19, 1895, Mr. Beyreis lost his wife and since that time he and his children have made their home upon the old farm. One by one the boys and girls went into homes of their own until but two of the boys remained. Ten children, five sons and five daughters, survive to cherish the memory of their father. They are George, William, Henry and Charles, all of this community, and Louis, who lives at Eminance, Kansas; Mrs. Louisa Haffner, Mrs. Lizzie Ramsey, Mrs. Mary Johnson of Marysville, Mrs. Carrie McDaniels of Oklahoma, and Mrs. Rosa Meisner of Kansas City. With the exception of one daughter, all were with their father during his last illness. Mr. Beyreis had been afflicted for a dozen years with an ailment that was incurable but it was only the last few months that the family realized that advancing years were setting their stamp upon him and that the end was near. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the home. Rev. Landis and Rev. G. Wullschieger were in charge, giving both and English and a German service. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at the German Lutheran church, just north of the Beyreis homestead, where for many years Mr. Beyreis was an attendant. ********************************************************************** In the spring of 1872 Andrew, Anna and their six children came from DeKalb county Illinois and settled on a farm south of DuBois, Nebraska. The family consisted of nine children: Five sons, George, Will, Henry, Louis and Charles; four daughters: Louise , Lydia , Carrie and Rosie . BEYREIS Andrew and Anna Beyreis and six children came in the spring of 1872, from DeKalb county, Ill., and settled on a farm south of DuBois. The farm now is owned by their grandson, John Beyreis. Anna Beyreis was French. She had beautiful long black hair which she wore braided. This story is told of their crossing the Missouri. They had loaded their possessions and family on to a ferry boat. Not having room for their four horses on the ferry, they decided to swim them across. It being the month of February and the river full of floating ice, two of the horses drowned before they could reach the opposite shore. The Beyreis family consisted of nine children. Five sons, George, Will, Henry, Louis and Charles; four daughters, Mrs. Louise Haffner, Mrs. Lydia Ramsey, Mrs. Carrie McDaniels and Mrs. Rosie Meisner.
