Description	:	"Tante Anna" was the sister of John Paul (J.P.), Catharine and William C. Andreas, and the aunt ("Tante") of J.P.'s children Katharine (m. Melvin) Boehr, John, Edward (Eddie), William (Bill), Elizabeth (Andreas) Decker, and Paul Andreas, of Catharine (m. Albert) Claassen's adopted children Carl, Elmer and Esther (m.Reuben)Friesen, and William's children Carl and Paul. She was great-aunt to their children, but we still called her "Tante". She was the daughter of Wilhelm (Mar. 30,1847-June 6,1923) and Catharine (Claassen) Andreas (Oct. 23, 1851-Jan. 7, 1925). She welcomed people to her big house on Elk Street, which she had bought with her share of inheritance. She had running water, and we would sometimes come to her house to do our washing. In the basement there were drying rooms. She never married, but cared for her nieces and nephews. She had a big garden, with irises along the driveway and phlox in back. Roses surrounded her house, and wisteria hung over the big brick front porch. She took flowers to the Beatrice Mennonite Church, where she attended. There were grape trellises in the back garden. She made marvelous soups in her big kitchen with the high ceilings and cupboards up to the very top. She had educational toys and games for children. She had a cabinet shelf filled with small mechanical toys that would "walk" down an incline. We had big formal family meals in her dining room. Although I don't recall her ever playing, she had an organ and a piano in her front room. In 1951, she knelt down with me, after explaining the way of salvation, and prayed with me as I asked Jesus to forgive me my sins and to come into my heart.
