ANNA DAVIDSON PASSED AWAY AT HER HOME, LAST FRIDAY Pioneer Mother Was laid To Rest In Glasco Cemetery Saturday Afternoon We are again called upon to record the passing of another from the swiftly thinning ranks of our pioneer mothers, Mrs. Anna Davidson, one of the earliest to arrive and the second to the last remaining on the original homestead. We who are privileged to enjoy the fruits of the labors of our early pioneers, cannot be reminded too often of the sacrifices and hardships they endured to make this section the beautiful, livable place it now is. Coming at so early a date while the country was still infested with the predatory tribes of Indians, and was not a wooded country, which made the sea of grass seem so vast and wild, many times the writer has heard "Mammie Davidson" tell how her heart was frozen with fear at seeing an evil red face peering through the tall grasses about the dug out, and of the stark terror that possessed her soul as the billows of smoke or cloud heralded the coming of the prairie fire or the terrific wind storm. We mothers, whose first impulse is to call in medical aid at the least indication of illness in our babies, and await, in an agony of suspense, the arrival of the doctor, can appreciate what it meant to have none closer than fifty miles, and we shrink at the thought of the responsibility it was theirs to meet in the crisis of birth and death. Each was then constituted herself a nurse to the other, and Mrs. Davidson was one of the best of these, an "Angel of Mercy" to families for miles around. And the simplest conveniences, which we take as a matter of course, were entirely lacking. She saw the homestead develop from the crudest dug out, to the log hut, the stone house, the commodious residence it now is, but always, being dug out or not, she made it a home, ...... Anna Franks was born March 17, 1851, at Dublin, Ohio and died January 31, 1930, age 78 years, 10 months and 13 days. When a small child she moved with her parents to Illinois, and later to Washington county, Kansas, where they spent one year. While here, she was united in marriage to E. Calvin Davidson, and came in 1870 as a bride to the Solomon Valley home where she endured all the trials and hardships incident to pioneer life. To this union four children were born, three sons, W.A., L.F. and J.M., all of whom are residents of the nearby community, and one daughter, Retta, who so tenderly and faithfully cared for her mother during her last illness....... Besides her own four children she was a mother to three orphan children who grew to maturity in her home ...... She leaves to mourn her loss besides the three sons and one daughter one sister, Martha Stiner, nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. R.R. Kaiser. Interment was in Glasco Cemetery
