DAVIDSON The Glasco community mourns the loss of its most public spirited citizen. Lorean F. Davidson was born Feb. 17, 1874, at the farm of his pioneer parents, Cal and Anna Davidson, in Solomon township, Cloud county, Kansas. He died at the Lutheran hospital, Omaha, Neb., Sept. 12, 1944, in his seventieth year. He was educated at Fairview school, the Glasco schools, and Ottawa university, and taught one year at Fairview. While at Ottawa university he was a member of their outstanding football team and became so enthusiastic a follower of the sport that when he returned to the farm he organized a football team at Glasco. This Glasco team was kept together for eleven years with "Tude" as captain, manager and coach, and it was as highly respected an organization of football talent as had been assembled outside of the college. In fact, they played K.U., Ottawa, Haskell Indians, and Lindsborg. Early in life he organized the firm of Davidson & Co. to handle hardware and implements, and later automobiles. He owned the first auto in Cloud county, a one cylinder Pope-Tribune. At twenty-six he was mayor of Glasco. For twelve years he was county commissioner and his election brought better roads for Cloud county. So outstanding was his road record that Governor Jonathan Davis appointed him to the state highway commission, and he went to Washington in 1925 as Kansas representative to the conference which adopted the present number system for federal highways. Back in 1912 he had been chosen president of the Red Line, early Kansas City-Denver highway, now U.S. 24. Mr. Davidson served on the building committee of the Glasco Grade School. He worked for weeks to assure the establishment of our Rural High School. He organized the Boy Scouts in Glasco. He was a Red Cross and war worker. As A.A.A. committeeman he listened to every problem presented to him by Solomon township farmers. Recently he steered to completion for the community a modern food locker system. Theses are but a few of the many worthy projects to which he devoted himself. He was a delegate of the Democratic National Convention at Denver which nominated William Jennings Bryan, and to the St. Louis convention which nominated Woodrow Wilson. Always he was an implicit believer in Franklin Roosevelt. He was a member of the Glasco Christian Church. In 1898 he married Sadie C. Burnett, who was the mother of his four children, and died in 1918. Later he married her sister, Lillian Burnett, who survives him, and who has been a most devoted wife in his last years of failing health. His son Bruce died in 1919, and his three surviving children are Keith Davidson of Omaha, Mrs. Fay Pool of Tampa, Florida, and Mrs. Ava Hoffman of Sacramento, California. A nephew, Melvin Burnett, now in military service, was raised in their home. Wid Davidson, his older brother, died a year ago. His sister Retta and his brother J.M. Davidson, Glasco, both survive him, also four grandchildren. For the betterment of the Glasco community no other man has given so generously of his time --- as has L.F. Davidson. Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 16, at 2:30 o'clock at the family home, the Rev. R.R. Kyser of McPherson in charge. Interment was in the Glasco cemetery.
