Davidson, son of E.C. Davidson and Anna Franks Davidson, at the age of 82, after having been a prominent businessman and banker for many years, died Tuesday morning, March 5, in the hospital at Concordia. He was born April 2, 1880, west of Glasco, and lived his entire life in this community. He attended school here and graduated from Glasco High School's second graduating class. In October of 1904 he was united in marriage to Nellie Hillhouse. Their honeymoon trip was to the World's Fair being held in St. Louis. He and his brother, L.F. Davidson, entered the hardware and implement business back in 1898. Later when automobiles came into being, they started selling the one-cylindered "Pope Tribune." Still later they took the Buick and E.M.F. Studebaker line, continuing with this until 1921. He started working at the First National Bank of Glasco in 1917. When he left the bank in May 1955 he was vice president and a member of the Board of Directors. He went from the bank into real estate. At the time of his death he had extensive farm and town properties in Cloud and Logan counties. In his younger days Joe was a teammate of the famous Glasco town football team, which during its 11 years of existence, played K.U., Ottawa, the Haskell Indians, and Lindsborg. He played on the Glasco "Red Line" basketball team, that played over a wide area of Kansas and Colorado. They painted signs during the day, and played basketball at night. He was also a top golfer and sold golf equipment for many years. Joe had been a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Modern Woodmen, and Lions Club. Behind his many phased activities and organizations was a good and kind man willing to extend a helping hand to others who were in need. Through the years he has befriended many persons in the Glasco community and surrounding area. Mr. Davidson was preceded in death by his wife on November 14, 1945; by his two brothers, William Davidson and Lorean Davidson; and one sister, Retta Davidson. He was the last member of his family. He leaves to mourn his passing his sister-in-law, Mrs. Arvilla Davidson of Glasco; nieces and nephews, Mr. Keith Davidson of Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Faye Poole of Las Vegas, Nev., Mrs. Verna Bush of Long Bush, Calif., Mrs. Evelyn Newland of Salina, and Bryan, Paul, Don and Leland Davidson of this community, as well as many friends. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 7, from the Methodist Church in Glasco, with Rev. Roger Shanks officiating. Pallbearers were Chet Halderson, Clyde Soule, Lowell Nutland, Jean Noel, Leland Chapin, and Henry Horn. Singers were Opal Breckenridge, Bernice Harper, Clive Cramer and Robert Barnum with Nadine Teasley at the organ. Mrs. Chet Halderson and Mrs. Lowell Nutland were in charge of the flowers. Interment was in the Glasco cemetery with Dean Funeral Home of Glasco in charge of arrangements.
