Description	:	Mrs. Anna Hultgren, one of the pioneers of Union county, S.D., where she had resided for fifty years, and an active church worker, died Tuesday. April 1, 1924, at her home six and a half miles northwest of Akron, at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 8 days. Mrs. Hultgren was born in Bergen, Norway, December 23, 1851. In 1870 she came to America and the first years were spent at Albert Lea, Minnesota, and from there came to Union county, S.D. In 1880 she married John Hultgren. He died in 1914. April 1, 1924, at her home six and a half miles northwest of Akron, at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 8 days. Mrs. Hultgren was born in Bergen, Norway, December 23, 1851. In 1870 she came to America and the first years were spent at Albert Lea, Minnesota, and from there came to Union county, S.D. In 1880 she married John Hultgren. He died in 1914. Mrs. Hultgren was an active worker in the Ladies' Aid of the Union Creek church, serving as its treasurer from 1909 to her death, a period of fifteen years. Since the organization of the Woman's Missionary Society she manifested a deep interest in its work. She was a staunch supporter of the charity work, especially the orphanage branch. Surviving her are the children: M.A. Hultgren, John A. Hultgren, Mrs. William Ericson and Elmer A. Hultgren, all of Union county, S.D.; one brother, Mons Monson, in Iowa; a, sister, Mrs. J.B. Ytterness, of Beresford, S.D.; seventeen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and other relatives and a host of friends, who loved and respected her for her many excellent qualities. The funeral services were held last Friday afternoon, at one o’clock from the home and at two o'clock at the Union Creek Lutheran church. Her pastor Rev. Emil Johnson, preached both in Swedish and English, and the choir rendered appropriate selections. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. The pallbearers were: John K. Erickson, Adolph Wiberg, Henry Johnson, William Olson, John Pierson and Martin Johnson. The burial took place in Union Creek cemetery. Peace be unto her memory.
