Read More	ELMER HULTGREN DIES SUDDENLY LAST THURSDAY Heart Attack Fatal To Esteemed Akron Man; Rites Held Sunday Coming as a grievous shock to both relatives and friends was the passing of Elmer A. Hultgren last Thursday afternoon, March 10, 1955, as the result of a sudden heart attack. Apparently in usual health, lie had gone to the home of his old-time friend and neighbor, Martin Ericson, about mid-afternoon for a customary social chat and coffee. Suddenly and without warning, he slumped forward on the table. A physician was summoned as quickly as possible, but Mr. Hultgren was past all human aid. He had attained the age of 70 years, 3 months and 24 days. Elmer Adolph Hultgren, son of John and Anna Hultgren, was born November 14, 1884, in Sioux Valley Township, Union county, South Dakota. He was baptized in infancy in the Union Creek Lutheran church, May 29, 1885. Some years later he became a communicant member through confirmation and had been a very active member of his church until the time of his death. For quite a number of years he served as an interested member of the Church Board of Administration. On June 6, 1911, he tool; us his bride Miss Adina Ericson, They began life together on the Hultgren farm, some three miles west of the church. On this farm they lived until 1948, when they moved into Akron, where he lived until his death. Their union was blessed with three sons and two daughters. Beside his unusual interest in his church, he was interested in the welfare of his community and county and served as Union County Commissioner from 1936 to 1948. In this and other ways he was active in civic affairs. He had an unusual ability in making and keeping friends, several hundred of whom attended the funeral service. More recently he has served on anniversary and remodeling committees of Union Creek congregation. Wherever he was asked to serve, he was willing and faithful in doing that which he considered best for the welfare of the church he loved and his fellowmen. Those who remain to mourn his departure include the widow, Mrs. Hultgren; his two daughters, Mrs. Marie Heeren, of Akron, and Mrs. Marian. Sykes, of Milford, Iowa; three sons, Kenneth, of Akron, and Russell and Earl, both of Ida Grove, Iowa; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many other relatives, and his many friends. The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon in the Union Creek Lutheran church, when an assemblage completely filled the church sanctuary and every other room or both floors, and some were, unable to enter the church. Pastor David J. Roy officiated. The funeral sermon theme, "The Lord God is My Shepherd." Mrs. Victor Clark sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "All the Way My Savior Leads Me," accompanied by Mrs. Henry Fickbohm, organist. Harlan and Kervyn Bradley, Raymond Ericson, Arnold Helseth, Eldon Huff and Max Vreugdenhil were casket bearers. Interment was in the Union Creek cemetery.
