Read More	DEATH COMES TO PIONEER UNION COUNTY WOMAN Mrs. William Ericson Died Friday Following A Brief Illness Mrs. William Ericson departed this life at the Akron Hospital last Friday morning, January 21, 1949. Her death followed a brief illness of only a few days, although she has endured physical suffering of various kinds for a number of years. At the time of her death she was 65 years, 11 months and 25 days of age. Had she lived she would have been 66 years of age next Thursday. Emma Mathilda Hultgren was born in Sioux Valley township, Union county, S.D., January 27, 1883, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hultgren, pioneer settlers in that community. She was baptized and confirmed in the Union Creek Lutheran church and throughout her life has been a faithful, loyal member there. On April 24, 1901, she was married to William Ericson, also of Sioux Valley Township. The wedding took place in the Union Creek church, with Rev. G.E. Linsten officiating. To this union were born five children, all of whom survive. All of her life Mrs. Ericson has been an especially active person. In her church she has served in various ways. During the last couple of years she has served as chairman of its cheer committee. Her interest in other people, particularly during time of sickness or death, made her the ideal one for this responsibility. Even during times of her own illness, she was thinking of others. Numerous deeds of love for others have endeared her to a host of friends, by whom she will be sincerely missed. Those remaining to mourn her departure include her husband, William: two sons, Lawrence, of Akron (Milton not listed), three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Waterman, of Sioux City; Mrs. Wilma Claeys, of Akron, and Mrs. Miriam Enockson, of Sioux City; one brother, Elmer Hultgren, of Akron; fourteen grandchildren, six nieces and eight nephews, besides many other relatives and a great host of friends. Funeral services were held in the Union Creek Lutheran church Monday afternoon, January 24, with Pastor David J. Roy officiating. A brief service was held in the family home at 1:30, preceding; the funeral. Appropriate music was furnished by Mrs. Henry Fickbohm. Mrs. Victor Clark, Mrs. Lee Stoutenburg and Mr. J.R. Shoulberg sang both at the home and at the church. They were accompanied by Mrs. Henning Shoulberg. Nephews who acted as pallbearers were Albert Anderson, Clayton Hultgren, Dennis Hultgren, Earl Hultgren, Kenneth Hultgren and Russell Hultgren. Interment was in the Union Creek Cemetery.
