OBITUARY (courtesy of Jayne Wiese and the Tama County Historical Society) Death of Mrs. P. O. Crawford, 58, Last Thursday Funeral Service Held on Monday: Burial at Crystal Mrs. P.O. Crawford, 58, a resident of Tama county all of her life, died last Thursday after three weeks' illness following a nervous breakdown. She had not been well for about two years. The funeral service was held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Peterman and Hutchinson funeral home and was conducted by Dr. J.H. Yaggy, pastor of the United Brethren church. Music was furnished by Mrs. J. H. Yaggy and Mrs. R. E. Wilson, who sang, "Rock of Ages," and "Asleep in Jesus." The accompaniments were played by Mrs. J.E. Elston. Casket bearers were Ernest Justus, Riley DuToit, Alfred Hofer, Joe Foley, Ernest Bacon and Simon Hofer. Burial was in Crystal cemetery, north of Toledo. Born in Carlton The following life sketch was read at the service: Annie May Steveson, youngest daughter of Noah and Mary V. Steveson, was born May 11, 1878, in Carlton township, and died at the age of 58 years, 7 months, and 13 days. After completing a rural school course, she attended Teachers' college at Cedar Falls and taught in the Tama county rural schools about five years. She became a member of the United Brethren Church at Garwin in 1900. On January 1, 1901, she was united in marriage to Peter O. Crawford. To this union eight children were born. Those who with their father survive are Mrs. Ralph Sturtz, Mrs. Iris McCoy and Miss Mardelle, Toledo; Warren of Deep River; Mrs. Jack Montgomery, Washington D.C.; Robert, Fort Des Moines. Two children, Rose Irene and Wendel Sheridan preceded her in death. She is also survived by seven brothers and one sister: T. F. Steveson, Garwin; Jesse N. and Harry W. Steveson, Denver, Colorado; C. F. Steveson, Rockford, Illinois ( I think this must be Elmer Steveson); Arden Steveson, Washington; Julius and Jay Steveson, and Mrs. J. P. Lorensen, Marshalltown. Two sisters. Mrs. J. W. Babb, who resided at Montour, and sister, Mrs. P. H. Sells of Gowrie died several years ago. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Margie and Peggy McCoy, Myra Dell, Lillian and Neal Sturtz, and Melvin Allan Crawford, besides many friends and neighbors. Her kind and loving hands were ever ready to assist those about her in sickness and in death. She was always present among loved ones and was very devoted to her family.
