Mr. Yarger was born Jan. 29, 1918, in Montpelier, Ohio, to Elroy A. and Vivian (Tingle) Yarger. He was married to Kathyrn M. Coy on Feb. 2, 1941. She survives. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and served in World War II in Normandy, northern France, Rhineland and central Europe. Read More	obit Angola, Indiana June 9, 2005 ANGOLA--Archiel A. "Archie" Yarger, 87, of Angola died Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at home. Mr. Yarger was born Jan. 29, 1918, in Montpelier, Ohio, to Elroy A. and Vivian (Tingle) Yarger. He was married to Kathyrn M. Coy on Feb. 2, 1941. She survives. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and served in World War II in Normandy, northern France, Rhineland and central Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the European, African, Middle East Service Medal with four Bronze Stars. He was a retired truck driver and airplane mechanic. He was a member of the Teamsters for 35 years. In 1936, he graduated from Montpelier High School and, in 1947, he graduated from Roosevelt Aviation School on Long Island, N.Y., as an aircraft and power plant inspector. He received his private pilot's license in 1949. He was member No. 547 in the Experimental Aircraft Association and contributed several articles about the construction of his home-built airplanes to Sport Aviation magazine. One of his aircrafts, the Mong Sport, still races at the Reno National Air Races. He was an occasional consultant to the Department of Aeronautical Engineering at Tri-State University. In his later years, he built and flew a multitude of model airplanes and was a member of the DeKalb Flyers. Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Peter A. and Peggy Yarger of Hamilton; a brother, Orvel Yarger of Edgerton, Ohio; two grandchildren and a grandson-in-law, Lori and Craig McDowell of Fort Wayne and Monte Yarger of Virginia Beach, Va.; and five great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kathryn and Karsyn Claire McDowell and Chelsea and Rachel Yarger. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Miller, on June 7, 1985. Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Weicht Funeral Home, Angola, with Norman Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Farmer Cemetery in Farmer, Ohio. Military graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Indiana time. Memorials are to the Steuben County Red Cross. _______________
