Description	:	Arlene Susan (Peters) Morse, a Council Bluffs mother and farm wife, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Prairie Gate Care Center after a brief illness. Arlene was born on August 4, 1923, to William and Catherine (Wagner) Peters in the borough of Wormleysburg, Pennsylvania. Arlene was born on August 4, 1923, to William and Catherine (Wagner) Peters in the borough of Wormleysburg, Pennsylvania. The Peters family soon moved to Penbrook and Arlene graduated from John Harris High School in 1941. After graduation, she began work as a telephone operator, a role she continued to enjoy during the war years. Her polite telephone manners gained in that work continued throughout her life. In 1943, at a USO dance in Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania, she met Ralph E. Morse, a corporal in the U.S. Army. That night, Ralph and Arlene began a friendship that would continue through correspondence while Ralph fought in Europe. That friendship led to marriage in 1946, when Ralph persuaded Arlene to join him on the family farm in rural Council Bluffs, where they worked together raising kids, cattle, and corn for 68 years until Ralph's death in 2014. She continued to reside on the farm and to help her children continue their farm work until shortly before her death. Their marriage was also blessed with five children: John, Marcia, Mary, Edward, and Myron ("Ernie"). Their children were also blessed with long and fruitful marriages, producing twenty grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren so far. Arlene was known for her hard work, graciousness, cheerfulness, and generosity. She cooked dinner for harvest crews on the farm until well into her 90s. She spent countless hours as a volunteer at Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital and served as a Sunday school teacher, nursery, and Ladies' Aid volunteer over the years at her local church. She enjoyed crocheting blankets for others to enjoy, and she regularly corresponded with family and friends. She and Ralph made friends easily, including many across the globe on trips they were able to take together. Arlene is survived by her children, John (Mary) Morse of Topeka, Kansas; Marcia (Jim) Larson of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Mary (Bruce) Bracker of Underwood, Iowa; Edward (Susan) Morse of Council Bluffs; and Myron (Laura) Morse of Columbus, Nebraska, along with their descendants and many other relatives and friends. The family is grateful to God for the gift Arlene brought to their lives. Visitation will be at Cutler-O'Neill Funeral Home in Council Bluffs on Saturday, January 22, at 10:00 a.m., followed by services at 11:00 a.m. and the rite of Christian burial at Hardin Township Cemetery, with lunch to follow. Memorials can be given to Prairie Gate Care Center, Hillcrest Hospice, or to the charity of your choice.
